Why Government Must Learn from Organisations Already Delivering AI in Practice

The UK Government has set out an ambitious vision to make Britain a global leader in artificial intelligence. That ambition is welcome. But if policymakers are serious about creating the right regulatory framework, they must, as we have been saying for years, engage with the organisations already using AI to deliver measurable results.

That is why IAB UK’s recent call for Government to work closely with industry on AI regulation is music to our ears.
While IAB UK’s research focuses on the digital advertising sector, the principle applies far more broadly. Across the UK economy, there are specialist firms, consultancies and in-house teams that have significant experience in helping organisations apply data, analytics and AI to solve real-world problems. They have developed proven playbooks for turning technology into commercial and operational impact.
These organisations understand an important truth: AI alone does not create value.
Success depends on high-quality data, clear governance, well-defined business objectives and the ability to embed insights into day-to-day decision-making. Without these foundations, even the most advanced AI tools will struggle to deliver meaningful outcomes.
At Beyond, we believe the real opportunity lies not in deploying AI for its own sake, but in putting data to work in ways that improve customer experiences, optimise operations and support better decisions.
The Government’s AI strategy will be strongest when it is informed by practitioners who have already demonstrated what works in practice. If the UK wants to lead globally in AI, it should build on the expertise of organisations that have moved beyond experimentation and are already delivering results.
